Played as a brand new player ever at EPT and the venue to check out and see how EPT did things, and to meet the people that directed/played there. I didn't go to win, and as such, chose to go before this current season ended so that I would have time to get used to how EPT did things, and have that experience going into a fresh season. However things didn't work out like I expected*. I was just playing and having a good time with the other players at my table. Granted I wasn't trying hard to win, but I wasn't playing to lose either. I just took my time and got to know a little about the other people there. Next thing I knew the announcement came 'Final 16 for points', and we broke down into the last two tables. I wasn't expecting to get even that far, so I felt good getting there. I felt even better that I was still in when we broke down to the final table.
Imagine my surprise when I find myself 'Heads Up' and playing for a chance to win the night. We both had an almost equal stack, and it was getting late, so after a couple hands of just pushing blinds back and forth we both said enough is enough. The other player pushed all in, and I called blind. It was late and we both wanted to go home after a long night. I don't remember his hand and as such the following may be incorrect. I think J, 9 off suit, but I flip and see a pair of 3's...3H, 3S. As we go through the flop, he paired his Jack plus two 10's showed. Turn card: 3. River came and just missed him...and here we are looking at a full house 3's over 10's vs. two pair J's and 10's. *Like I have often said throughout my life, "Never assume or expect anything. You will never be disappointed, but can always be pleasantly surprised."
I went there just to play and have fun, and in the end I ended up winning the night.
Apologies to any I may offend, I am really bad with names of those I meet for the first time.
